Dwayne Johnson

During a theater screening of Red Notice, Johnson surprised Oscar Rodriguez with his own custom truck. Johnson chose Rodriguez because of his positive attitude, his care for his elderly mother, his leadership at his church, and his support for victims of domestic violence.

Rodriguez was moved to tears by the gift.

Bruno Lauer had helped The Rock and his mom: when Johnson was evicted as a teen, Bruno took them in, later gave Johnson a place to stay when he was starting out, and once even gave Johnson his last $40 to help him with his first car. Johnson later surprised Bruno with a truck (a new Ford F-150) as a thank you.

A 10-year-old boy, Jacob O’Connor, used techniques he had seen in San Andreas to save his younger brother from drowning. Johnson invited Jacob, his mother, and his brother to meet him on the set of Skyscraper in Vancouver.

He treated them with attention, recognized the boy’s heroic act, and got to spend time with him.

Johnson has been known to meet fans in informal moments, giving them hugs, talking with them, sometimes taking time to listen. For example, there’s a story of a young boy (Marco) who was overwhelmed meeting Johnson; Rock responded with kindness and comfort.

At a Black Adam event, when a fan handed him their baby on stage, Johnson accepted and held the child.

A fan named Jonny Cleasby told Johnson that seeing him had inspired Cleasby to lose about 60 pounds since January. During an interaction where they met and spoke, Johnson encouraged him, calling that kind of impact “the best part of fame.”

Johnson connected with a young fan battling cancer in the hospital (Kane), along with his twin brother and parents. He video-called them, showed kindness in the interaction, and made an emotional connection. Sadly, Kane passed away shortly afterward. But Johnson’s gesture was deeply meaningful.

Daniel Radcliffe

Once in Chelsea, London, Radcliffe came across a man who had just been mugged (on mopeds), wounded and shaken. He comforted the victim and stayed with him.

At a screening of his movie What If in Los Angeles, Radcliffe surprised people in the audience (they weren’t told ahead of time he’d be there), came out, shook hands, gave hugs, chatted with them

For his birthdays/Christmas, Radcliffe has asked that fans donate to the children’s hospice Demelza House instead of giving him presents.

People who have met Radcliffe after his theater shows (e.g. Merrily We Roll Along, etc.) say he makes time, is friendly, asks them how they liked the show, takes photos, signs Playbills, gives a personal moment, not rushing off.

In HELLO! magazine’s “Kind List,” someone who met him said he “instantly relaxed me with his kindness,” and that he “operates in the world with grace and humility” and has “capacity to care for others.”

Radcliffe made a major donation to The Trevor Project, a crisis and suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ+ youth, and joined their Circle of Hope.

He has spoken about how important it is for young people to know they’re not alone and that their lives have value.

He has supported Get Connected, a UK helpline for young people under 25 who need help or don’t know where to turn. He attended a charity auction which raised over £182,500 for them.

Radcliffe is vice president of Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

He narrated a fundraising/awareness video for them, helping raise money and awareness especially around Christmas.

He has donated time and made donations to support terminally ill children and their families via Demelza.

After his stunt double, David Holmes, suffered serious spinal injuries, Radcliffe organized a charity dinner and auction in London to raise money for Holmes’s medical care.

Chris Evans

Chris Evans surprised 9-year-old Kenny Botting, a brain-cancer patient and big Captain America fan, at Christopher’s Haven in Boston.

During the visit, Evans brought gifts, signed memorabilia, posed for photos with other residents, and even let Kenny tie him to a chair in the pillow fort they had made together.

Evans said, “It’s their strength that gives me strength. No matter what hurdles are in my life it’s nothing compared to what these families go through, so any way I can bring a smile it’s worth it.”

As part of a Super Bowl bet they made, Chris Evans and Chris Pratt visited Seattle Children’s Hospital. Evans dressed as Captain America, Pratt as Star-Lord. They brought action figures and other gifts.

The visit wasn’t just a photo op — Evans interacted with many children, bearing costumes and gifts, and seemed genuinely moved by meeting them.

Bridger Walker, age six, protected his younger sister from a dog and was badly injured. Chris Evans saw the story, reached out with a video message, calling Bridger a hero and promised him an authentic Captain America shield.

The message was very personal — Evans told him his parents must be so proud, encouraged him in his recovery, and said the boy embodies the kind of bravery people admire.

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise witnessed a hit-and-run accident involving a young woman (aspiring actress Heloisa Vinhas). He pulled over, called for medical help, accompanied her to the hospital, and when he learned she wasn’t insured, he paid her medical bills (about $7,000).

During a vacation with his then-wife Nicole Kidman, Cruise spotted a sailboat on fire. He sent his yacht’s small boat (skiff) to rescue the people aboard (the family plus crew). Soon after, the sailboat sank.

Between scenes (on a film set), Tom Cruise noticed Elisabeth Shue running toward a spinning helicopter tail rotor (dangerous). He lunged, grabbed her legs, pulled her away to safety.

During the shooting of Mission: Impossible 7, after many production challenges (pandemic etc.), Cruise had 300 cakes flown from his favorite bakery in Los Angeles to share with the London-based crew for the holidays.

Tom Cruise participated in a screening in Knoxville, Tennessee (an advance showing of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back) which raised $600,000 for the Children’s Charity of Eastern Tennessee (serving at-risk children).

Tom Cruise is a founding board member for the Hollywood Education and Literacy Project (HELP), which helps students learn to read.

He received the Excellence in Mentoring Award from the National Mentoring Partnership for his work with literacy and mentoring.

Co-star Bill Hader once said that Tom helped him during a panic attack, and helped him finish work early so he could get home to his family.

During a promotional event in Seoul, a fan accidentally stepped on Tom’s shoe. He responded graciously and said it was his “pleasure,” showed good humor, and generally had warm interactions with fans, taking selfies and treating them kindly.

To help Vanessa Kirby and others feeling tired during filming Mission: Impossible, Cruise has gifted them things to boost morale. For example, sky-diving lessons were gifted as a wrap (end of making the movie) gift to an actor, enabling them to get their license and even jump together.

Simon Pegg has said Tom Cruise often reflects appreciation back to the cast and crew, making people feel valued.

Matthew McConaughey

Over multiple years, Matthew McConaughey and his family volunteered to help deliver meals via Meals on Wheels in Central Texas, including on Thanksgiving days. Doing this sort of work takes time, humility, personal presence.

During the early days of the pandemic, McConaughey, his wife Camila, and his mom Kay joined a Zoom call with residents of a senior living facility in Texas. They played bingo together, chatted about family heritage etc., just to brighten their day and help people who were isolated.

In May 2020 he and Camila drove around Texas with a truck full of masks (110,000 donated by Lincoln), distributing them to rural hospitals in need during the COVID situation. It’s a pretty practical, boots-on-the-ground kind of help.

At the University of Texas, he took part in “SURE Walk,” a program to help students safely get home late at night—using golf carts, walking partners, etc. McConaughey volunteered time to support that.

McConaughey isn’t just a busy actor — he takes care to be a present dad. One article describes how he delights in “never-ending stories” with his young children. When story time is supposed to wrap up, he’ll keep making up new parts, extending the tale by imagination so that the kids don’t want it to end.

It’s a small thing, but it shows a willingness to slow down, be playful, and be fully in the moment with his children. That kind of presence counts — especially when someone has a high-pressure life.

There is a story by someone who attended church that describes how McConaughey showed humility and respect. The author writes that one Sunday, she shook hands with people around her as part of the gathering, and Matthew McConaughey was there seated nearby. On his birthday, he helped deliver thousands of turkeys to people in need (Lawrenceburg, Kentucky). He once delivered 4,500 turkeys to families.

During storms in Texas in 2021, he organized and hosted a virtual benefit (“We’re Texas”) via his foundation to help vulnerable communities get back on their feet.

For the Maui wildfires, he and his family helped fund and send an emergency aid plane with supplies through the nonprofit Baby2Baby.

Leonardo DiCaprio

While vacationing in the Caribbean with friends and his girlfriend, DiCaprio’s yacht received a Mayday call: a 24-year-old French crew member had fallen off a cruise ship near St. Martin and was drifting in the water.

The man had been treading water for 11 hours, was severely dehydrated, and the weather was deteriorating.

DiCaprio and his boat crew diverted to search, located him near Saba Island, hauled him aboard, gave him food, clothing, and water, and then turned him over to the coast guard.

DiCaprio was walking his dog along the Hudson River when he came across an elderly couple who seemed lost. He pulled out his phone, showed them directions, pointed the way, and helped them get where they were going.

In the story of Gemma Nuttall, a young mum diagnosed with cancer: Kate Winslet and DiCaprio helped raise funds via a special event / fundraiser. A dinner with “Jack and Rose” (referencing their Titanic characters) was auctioned off, among other efforts, to help Gemma get treatment. This kind of act is more personal as it directly helps one person in need.

While filming Blood Diamond in Africa, Leonardo DiCaprio quietly donated money to build a well in a village, intending to leave the location “better than they found it.” This was done with an intention to help that local community in a tangible way, not just as a large distant contribution.

In 1998, he founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to protect endangered species, marine conservation, and combating climate change. For example, he donated $3 million to save tigers in Nepal and $7 million for ocean conservation.

In 2004, after the Indian Ocean tsunami, he personally gave $1 million to the relief fund. Later, in 2010, he also donated $1 million to earthquake relief in Haiti.

Brad Pitt

Brad has been reported to volunteer in LA’s Watts area, handing out groceries and essentials to underserved communities. It’s said he has done this multiple times.

Reports say that Brad Pitt allowed a 105-year-old neighbor to stay in one of his homes rent-free.

While filming World War Z in London, Pitt made a spontaneous donation of about $1,100 to Southampton Hospital’s neonatal unit when a fundraiser asked if he’d like to contribute.

He reportedly donated $1 million to racial justice organizations in early 2025, moved by the events surrounding George Floyd and other related issues.

In 2007, Brad Pitt founded the Make It Right Foundation to help rebuild homes in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward after Hurricane Katrina. The goal was to provide eco-friendly, storm-resistant, and affordable housing for people who had lost nearly everything.

The homes included sustainable design elements (green roofs, efficient heating/cooling) and aesthetic considerations.

Together with Angelina Jolie, Pitt established the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. Among its early acts:

At age 96, Dick Van Dyke was spotted at the Malibu Community Labor Exchange handing out $5 bills to homeless people and job-seekers.

He also took time to chat with those waiting in line, showing interest in their stories.
